I played football until my knee gave out. Then I stopped.

Yours might not have come apart on a pitch. Maybe it was thirty years of standing on it at work. Maybe it carried you up the same stairs too many times. Maybe it just got older than the rest of you did. It ends up in the same place.

The injury was not the hard part. The mornings were. Going down the stairs sideways. Standing up slowly so nobody notices. Saying no to the thing you used to say yes to, and quietly working out that you might be finished with it.

What helped was heat. Not a cure, and I would rather be straight with you about that than sell you something. Fifteen minutes of real warmth on the joint before I asked anything of it.

It never gave me my old knee back. It gave me the next hour, and then the one after that.

So I made the thing I wanted on those mornings. Cordless, hot enough to matter, and sensible enough to switch itself off before I had to think about it.

I built it for you as much as for me. Whatever your knee took, I hope this hands a little of it back. The pitch, the garden, the grandkids, or just the stairs without planning them first.
